Say No

The news of Amy Winehouse's death, while sad, is not the least bit surprising. Drugs and alcohol have been then downfall to many talented actors, musicians, etc. When something is readily available to you, whenever you want, it is that much harder to say no.

It pains me to see this happen to people, famous or not, regularly. When I was in college, there were two people within the Greek community that died from drug and alcohol abuse. I am not scolding, or discrediting them at all, you live your life the way you please. And sometimes, horrible things happen to really good people.

What worries me is that our generation seems to think that they are indestructible. I have never really had any "run-ins" or incidents with drugs, mostly because I am too much of a worrier. I have problems letting myself relax, which is bad in most facets of life, but it has prevented me from ever having a drug personality. In my mind, one night of craziness isn't worth my life. The rewards don't outweigh the risks to me. Yeah you could have a "fun" night on drugs, but you could also lose your life due to an infinite number of complications. So you have to ask yourself, is it worth it?

Our generation needs to start to realize that things like this that happened to Amy Winehouse, Jimi Hendrix, and Janice Joplin shouldn't be romanticized. No one is immortal. Drugs can and will kill you if you let them take control of your life. An addiction is a disease, and it all starts with one decision you make one time. You are not above the power that drugs can have on your life, this can happen to you too.

I know some of you might not want to hear my opinions on drugs, but it had to be said. Maybe, just maybe, somebody will read this and change their opinions. I am sorry if I offended. I will be back to perky/happy Kai tomorrow!

I totally agree with ya...its so sad this happens to anyone, yet a very young person who has barely experience life. Hopefully, our generation will learn from such an aweful situation such as this one and make some changes.

Good post. I think you are absolutely right about the generation of kids today. It scares me that my nieces and nephews are growing up around all this, but hopefully they have learned to resist through having a strong family support system. I've always said no to drugs [though not alcohol which could be equally as dangerous!].

It needs to be said. Like it or not. It needs to be yelled out at the top of our lungs. It needs to posted all over the internet, the billboards. You have stated a mighty thing. We are loosing too many loved ones from a terrible terrible thing....so sad.

I think its sad as well, but completely agree. I heard they don't think drugs played a part in her death but what I don't understand is all the sudden she's number 1 on iTunes and everyone is sad for her. Didn't everyone used to make fun of her? I feel like the same think happened with Michael Jackson. Anyways, thank you SO SO much for featuring me as blog of the week :D

Well written! I just watched the movie Factory Girl and it is about Edie Warhol, a socialite in the sixties that died young of a drug overdose. Seems to happen way too often....

It may be sad, but everything you said is totally true. I hope she isn't so glamorized in death that fans/the public forget what actually got her there. Tragic.

I completely agree with you. It’s so sad to see our generation continuously lose their battles with addiction to drugs and alcohol. And yes, Amy Winehouse’s death is sad but not shocking which sounds like a terrible thing to say unfortunately it’s true.

you said it all. these younger generations (and ours included) think they are superhuman. No one is. there are consequences to everything. real. life/death. consequences. What happened to the common knowledge that bad things happen to EVERYONE???

PERFECTLY said, friend. I have the same feelings on drug abuse...it's a sad sad thing. People who abuse drugs and alcohol should have more value for their lives. (in my opinion)
